Thai
(ภาษาไทย), a Tai-Kadai
language spoken by about 25 million people in Thailand (ประเทศไทย),
the Midway Islands, Singapore, the UAE and the USA. King Ramkhamhaeng
(1275-1317) claims to have created an alphabet for Siamese language
in 1292, which later developed into the Thai alphabet. The alphabet
was probably derived from, or at least influenced by, the Khmer
alphabet. Thai is a tonal language with 5 tones. There
are no spaces between words, instead spaces in a Thai text indicate
the end of a clause or sentence.
Thai
is one of the major languages in Asia, but is also spoken in the
UK and other parts of Europe as an ethnic language.
Thai
is one of the languages regularly translated by Comms Multilingual.
