The workplace landscape is changing rapidly. The Covid lockdowns showed many people that it is entirely possible to carry out many office jobs from home without a problem.
Once the lockdowns ended, people were looking to their organizations to provide much more flexibility in their working arrangements. HR personnel are at the center of managing this big change.
A lot of organizations have now embraced flexible working. At Comms Multilingual, we are in the office 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and working from home the rest of the time. People appreciate the flexibility of working at home some of the time, but also to have the opportunity of being with their co-workers for 2 days a week.
We feel that it is particularly important for any new co-workers to have the opportunity of meeting and interacting with their fellow co-workers and learning from them face to face.
The next trend in the UK is looking at going from the traditional 5-day working week to a 4-day working week, with longer hours on the 4 days. Will this work in practice? We will wait and see.
